Our mission is to utilize iconic signs and landmarks to raise awareness about the urgent need for renewable energy and to provide assistance with environmental sustainability projects in communities surrounding the sign.
Vision:
Solar the Sign will be comprised of a global community that uses iconic landmarks to promote renewable energy through awareness, advocacy and action. We advocate lighting the Hollywood Sign with solar power one night a year, to make it the world’s most visible symbol of solar energy.
Lighting the Hollywood Sign with solar power – without changing its iconic appearance, or disrupting the habitat or the neighborhoods around it – can inspire similar actions in other communities, where landmarks lit by solar can symbolize support for renewable energy.
Through education we believe Solar The Sign can inspire young people to change their behavior with respect to their environment, influence their families, pursue jobs and careers in sustainability and environmental sciences.
We believe that there’s no story as powerful as change. Now is the time for a dramatic transformation in the way we produce and consume energy, and nothing symbolizes this transformation more powerfully than lighting the Hollywood Sign with solar power.
